Kashmir 1989, a bad winter in Europe forced me to look further afield for skiing adventure We discovered Gulmarg (the meadow of flowers) , a stunning range of mountains perched above the bustling city of Srinagar. There we spent days on the houseboats, paddling through the floating markets in our Shikaras (Kashmiri gondolas) on Dal Lake in a timeless dream land reminiscent of the days of the Maharajas and the Raj, before ascending to Gulmarg in the Kashmiri Himalaya, with few lifts. Here we spent a month in ski touring paradise ....

2005, after 15 years I return to Kashmir discovering a lift built to 3900 metres, few people and a lift accessed ski touring dream, I have returned there each year since and discovered some of the most beautiful powder and adventure skiing that I know...huge descents, 2500m vertical and up to 20 km long. Truly a unique skiing and cultural experience of a lifetime, with a night spent on a houseboat on Lake Dal.
